# Conventions

A reference for how Trada formats and labels things consistently across the app.

## Time & timezone

* Times are stored in **UTC**.
* Times display in **your timezone** when it's set on your profile, falling back to UTC otherwise.
* **"Today"** is based on your timezone.

## Currency

* Amounts display in **USD**.
* Money uses a `$` prefix and two decimals (for example `$1,284.50`), unless stated otherwise.

## Numbers

* **Percentages** show one decimal — for example `54.3%`.
* **P\&L always shows its sign** — `+120.45` for a gain, `-34.10` for a loss.
* **Win rate** is shown as a percentage.

## P\&L colour and labelling

* Gains are shown in green with a `+` sign; losses in red with a `-` sign; zero is neutral.
* The term **"P\&L"** is used consistently throughout the app and these docs.

## State patterns

You'll see the same patterns wherever data loads:

* **Loading** — a skeleton placeholder while data is fetched.
* **Empty** — a short title, a one-line description, and a primary action to get started.
* **Error** — an inline alert with a **Retry** option.

## Plans & permissions

Some actions are shown, hidden, or disabled based on your plan, and Free-plan screens may show an upgrade prompt. See [Plans & pricing](/trada-docs/plans-and-billing/plans-billing.md).

## Naming

Trada uses **"Accounts"** (not "Connections") for the trading accounts you link.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://trada-llc.gitbook.io/trada-docs/reference/conventions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
